CBS just announced the development of a brand-new Star Trek television series to premiere in 2017! Here’s my pitch. If any of you readers can get me a gig in the writer’s room I will compensate you with your favorite bribe.

legitimately having trouble understanding how this comic and this one came out of the same guy

Perhaps the truth… Is in the middle?!

*faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaart*

How the hell can the truth be “in the middle” of this specific issue when nothing even approaching the other end of the issue actually exists yet? It’s like saying maybe there’s a truth in the middle of claiming “there’s a lot of homeless people we aren’t helping” and “the vast majority of people live in their own personal skyscraper.”

Serioustalk, I interpreted the messages in the two cartoons as “diversity bad” and “lack of diversity bad”, and assumed that was why you expressed confusion at both being by the same author. The statement “the truth is in the middle” is meant to be facetious in this context, as indicated by the following long fart noise.

You are correct in pointing out that the logic of “truth in the middle” is flawed when the political discussion often comes to the extremes of “shut down the government” versus “hey lets maybe not do that”, and the -Mainstream Media- having to take the position of “well let’s meet in somewhere in the middle for a compromise”

Sorry for coming across as insulting.

It’s fine. You got my intent in your first sentence completely correct, for the record.

The thing is, though, that you and I don’t talk often enough that I can immediately figure out whether something like “*faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaart*” is being pointed in my direction, and I assumed the worst. So I’m sorry as well.

Howdy! My intent with the new strip was not to make fun of diversity in a new incarnation of Star Trek, but to have fun with it. I’m hoping it’s diverse as hell. If that didn’t come across clearly it’s my fault. I think you can use humor to attack an idea, but you can also use it to celebrate one.

“Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes.”

-Walt Whitman

I haven’t read “scenes from a multiverse” at all, if I saw the first one up there stand alone I would definitely tend to...
